The Stoke Row News is produced each month and aims to inform local people about events in their locality. It comprises 20 x A4 pages of reading matter and four (yellow) pages of advertisements. The yellow page adverts are only accepted annually, usually in November, by Victoria Gould. Adverts for inclusion between copy matter are sometimes accepted by the Editor throughout the year (based on 5p/word up to 25 words or display advert £5 for 1/8th page).
The closing date is 22nd of each month, earlier in December, and it is aimed to have the finished product with the reader before the 1st day of the following month. The price is 20p per month and has been so since 1991, thanks to our advertisers and voluntary workers.
Regular contributors include the Church of St John the Evangelist, the Stoke Row Chapel, Stoke Row Primary School, Notes from the Stoke Row Parish Council meetings, 1st Stoke Row Scouts, the Checkendon Playgroup, the Stoke Row Baby Club, the Art Group, the Stoke Row Women’s Institute, the Wednesday Club and the Garden Club.
As well as these regular contributions, there are a number of information items, such as those about the Henley Philatelic Society, the Wallingford Photographic Club, the Chiltern Edge Antiques Appreciation Society, the Wallingford Corn Exchange Theatre and Cinema, the Christian Community Action Charity Shop and the Sue Ryder Home’s fundraising activities. Articles about recent and future events to be held locally are always welcome.
A whole page given over to Diary Dates and an In and Around section, detailing such items as Births, Deaths, Marriages, special birthdays, etc and warm welcomes to people who have recently moved into the village. Waste Collection dates and venues are always listed. There is also a Highmoor page as this adjacent village does not have a magazine of its own and its 90+ subscribers constitute a quarter of the total circulation of almost 400 copies per month.
This magazine is delivered voluntarily to most homes is Stoke Row and Highmoor but is also available from The Stoke Row Village Stores, The Stoke Row Garage, The Peppard Stores, The Cherry Tree and the Checkendon Stores. Applications for regular delivery can be made to David Gobbett.
