FOOTPATHS Saturday, November 22, 2014

The parish of Stoke Row is set in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) within the Chilterns. It is happily blessed with 36 definitive footpaths (plus a number of permissive paths) within its boundaries so it is possible to enjoy many circular walks and rides through varied scenery ranging from wood to farmland. Of course, many of these footpaths lead on to other parishes’ footpaths so it is possible to walk as many or as few miles as you like.

Details of these footpaths may be found on the Explorer 3 Chiltern Hills South OS map or, for more detail, try the excellent maps produced by the Chiltern Society and available from them or the Bell Bookshop in Henley. Stoke Row is covered by map No. 16 Henley and Nettlebed and by map No. 15 Crowmarsh and Nuffield.

Their web site is:- http://www.chilternsociety.org.uk

Rita Gregory (telephone number 01491 681877) is Chiltern Society footpath representative for Stoke Row. Stephen Fox is the 8A Area Secretary, Rights of Way Group of the Chiltern Society. This covers parishes including Stoke Row, Sonning Common, Rotherfield Peppard, Highmoor, Nettlebed, Bix, Harpsden, Shiplake. He is also the Coordinator for the Chiltern Society Path Maintenance Volunteers who cover the South Chilterns. They operate 3 days a month. Volunteers are most welcome and there is no need to be a member of the Chiltern Society. Just think how much good that could do for your health too.

Stephen Fox can be contacted on 01491 681646 or stephen.a.fox@btinternet.com
