CRICKET Tuesday, April 25, 2017

For several years now Stoke Row Cricket Club has found it difficult to regularly find sufficient quality players to compete in The Berkshire League, Premier Division.  It has meant on occasions that we had youngsters participating who did not have the experience to face the fast bowling attack of the competition.

In September of 2013 we were approached by Peppard Cricket Club who were facing many of the same problems, although they are a significantly much larger Cricket Club with 3 senior Saturday teams, 1 Sunday team and some 60 Youth players.

After a series of meetings between personnel from both Cricket Clubs and consultations with The Berkshire League, Stoke Row Cricket Club and Peppard Cricket Club merged under the new name of Peppard Stoke Row Cricket Club.

The financial responsibility for all cricket being played at Stoke Row now comes under the management of Peppard Stoke Row Cricket Club.  We have passed to them ownership of all our cricket equipment, including the roller, mowers etc. etc.  They will be responsible for pitch preparation and cutting of the outfield.

Peppard Stoke Row Cricket Club will have 3 teams competing in different divisions of The Berkshire League on Saturdays, 2 occasional Sunday Teams, one of which will play their home games at Stoke Row and be run by our very own Matt Kimber, and most importantly for the future of cricket, several Youth Teams.

In the coming season Peppard Stoke Row Cricket Club will play around 50 matches at Stoke Row, split between the first XI, the second XI, the third XI, the Maharajahs and numerous junior matches.  so there will be plenty of cricket to be seen on a regular basis in the village.  We will be keeping our promise to Sport England and hopefully preserving cricket in the village for a long time to come.
